The magic word when you ask Jürgen Mohr about his recipe for success is "listening." In his industry, fulfilling wishes is paramount. Over the past six years, with hard work, expertise, and above all, a keen ear for his customers, he has become Dortmund's most sought-after caterer. The fact that Jürgen Mohr, originally from outside the industry, now not only supplies events with excellent food, but can also offer complete events with everything that goes with it, has a backstory: "After eleven years in sales, I wanted to fulfill a childhood dream by entering the catering industry. As it turned out, I seem to have a talent for it: one snack bar quickly grew into five, and with this foundation, my confidence in the field grew. With a very small but highly trained team, I took it to a new level in 2016: high-quality catering, from classic menus and buffets to unusual finger food, BBQs, and show cooking." The three-man operation has now grown into a team of 65 employees. Jürgen Mohr gathered needs. In preliminary discussions with his clients, he had them describe exactly what the perfect event looked like for them. "I realized that a comprehensive service where the client only has to take care of their guests didn't exist in this form here yet. And I noticed that several of the locations we use could still be optimized. When I had the opportunity to take over a unique property with rustic charm in December 2021, I jumped at the chance." Mohr and his team have completely renovated the Eventhouse at Hohensyburg Castle over the past few months, transforming it into the perfect venue for beautiful celebrations.
It's the little things that make the difference!
Arriving, feeling welcome, and simply enjoying the company of family, friends, and business partners – that's what a celebration made Catering by Mohr looks like. Animal welfare, the use of seasonal and regional produce, and almost climate-neutral operations thanks to photovoltaic systems and electric vehicles are important to the young entrepreneur. In the new event house, he can accommodate between 70 and 110 people, depending on the seating arrangement. "The gala seating with round tables is ideal for a large wedding, but things can look different for a company celebration, and for a casual birthday party with a flying buffet, there are standing tables for up to 250 people," says Jürgen Mohr. When describing the premises, he starts to rave: "Built with typical Ruhr sandstone, we have massive, thick walls, the air-conditioned rooms are particularly high, and in the large ambient hall, the uplighters create a fantastic atmosphere." At every corner, you can see that someone has put some thought into it. Outdoor receptions – where there's ample parking and even a wedding and event lawn – are just as possible as gatherings in the indoor reception area. There are only a few dates available at the Eventhouse this year, even though the location has only just been completed. Jürgen Mohr himself was astonished: "I could only talk about what it would be like, because we were still in the middle of the renovations. Nevertheless, my own enthusiasm obviously rubbed off on the people." But enthusiasm alone won't get anything done. Rather, the good reputation that Mohr has built up over the past few years with great food and smooth operations will have been the deciding factor here.
